NAGPAPAKAMAKATA
WARNING:
Under Construction: an essay on a lifestyle that it is under renovation and reinnovation
In the realm of colloquial language, "nagpapaka" may be translated into "trying to be" which in usage is basically a noun or an adjective as it is utilized as a pejorative label for those for those who put too much effort - "trying hard". To be a trying hard poet, or to be a man who tries so hard so as to be a poet is a brand I embrace and particularly fancy.
However, my personal take on the word is very different. Whereas nouns and adjectives are very static and stagnant, I wish to "verbalize" the word - in that I wish to treat it as a verb and that I wish for it to transcend the stationary sense of simply sticking labels. Essentially, "trying and nagpapaka" are verbs - action words - that suggest effort and struggle.
"Nagpapakamakata" implies a struggle filled with effort: of making lyrical the words I speak; the thoughts I conceive; the stunts I execute; the deeds I perform. It suggests trying to make beautiful that self that is in the continuous process of creation. The word connotes a undergoing a journey: of tragic falls and failures; of real life situation comedy and conversational stand-ups and adlibs; of dramaramas and weeping marathons; of suspense, surprise and wonder as moments unfold; even of fantasies and dreams, horrors, nightmares, and fears. Nagpapakamakata aims to inject with truthful metaphors, colorful images, and poetry the pages of my diary and of history.
Hopefully, this nagpapaka struggle ends up into fruitful napaka-'s no matter how magnificent or amazing, dreadful or horrible, the adjectives attached to this prefix may be. The hope of one nagpapakamakata is to be extremely dynamic. To be in essence, a super, a mega, what the hell, exagge and over, as in no way grabe!*
Eh sorry, nagpapakamakata lang naman.
(To Be Continued: nagpapakamakata pa.)
